Would you like to book a hotel on your next vacation and save as much as possible? Then you should know that you can often find cheaper offers with a VPN (Virtual Private Network). In this article, you’ll find out how it works quickly and easily.
What is a VPN?
Before we go into how you can book hotels cheaper with a VPN, let’s briefly explain what a VPN actually is.
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a technology that allows you to establish a secure and encrypted connection to another network.
With a VPN, you can hide your IP address and encrypt your connection, giving you more privacy and security when surfing the internet.
A VPN is also often used to bypass country blocks. This can be particularly useful if content is blocked in certain countries or if you want to access streaming providers abroad that only work in Germany.
A VPN simply tricks the website into thinking that you are in a different country.
Cheap hotels with VPN at Booking.com
Booking.com is one of the largest booking platforms for hotels and other accommodation worldwide. Depending on where you access Booking.com from, the prices for the same hotels may vary.
This is because Booking.com offers different prices for different regions. By using a VPN such as CyberGhost or NordVPN, you can change your virtual location and access different offers for different regions.
Hotels with VPN: step-by-step guide
- Download and install a VPN such as CyberGhost or NordVPN on your computer or cell phone.
- Choose a server location in a country where you expect to find better deals on hotels. For example, you could choose a server in a neighboring country, in Asia or in Eastern Europe to access cheaper deals in that region.
- Visit Booking.com and search for the hotels you want. It is best to use an anonymous browser window.
- Compare prices with and without VPN. If you find a cheaper offer with VPN, book the hotel with the VPN activated.
- Remember to switch off the VPN as soon as you have completed the booking.
Test: VPN booking with Booking.com
During our test, we were able to find some cheap hotels with a VPN. The difference was between 20 and 180 euros, depending on the hotel and length of stay.
The VPN countries that worked best for us were Austria, Malaysia, India and Chile. However, this can vary depending on the provider and hotel. For some hotels, we didn’t notice any price difference at all.
Please note: For some countries, the price is shown excluding taxes. At first glance, the price is therefore cheaper.

Exciting: If you book a lot of hotels with Booking.com, you get a so-called Genius status with further discounts. In our test, the combination of Genius and VPN led to even lower prices.
We compared hotel prices on the Balearic Islands (Ibiza & Mallorca), in Mexico (Tulum), on the Canary Islands (Lanzarote & Fuerteventura), in South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Alternative Genius program
A good alternative to VPN bookings is to use the Genius program from Booking. Level 3 is the highest status and offers discounts of up to 20%.
Normally, you only get this status when you have booked 15 different hotels within two years. But there’ s a little trick that makes it much quicker and cheaper.
Conclusion: Book cheap hotels with VPN
With a VPN, you can often find cheaper deals for hotels on Booking.com by changing your virtual location and accessing deals in different regions.
It’s important to note that using a VPN doesn’t always lead to cheaper deals, but it’s definitely worth giving it a try.
Remember that it’s important to use a trusted VPN to ensure your privacy and security.
