Smartmi air purifier review: Portable with smart home

Clean air is essential for our health – especially in times when allergies, particulate matter and poor air quality are on the rise.

The Smartmi air purifier promises just that: fresh, clean air in a compact, portable device.

But does it deliver what it promises? I have tested the air purifier extensively and share my experiences with you.

Design and processing

The Smartmi P1 comes in a modern, minimalist design. The housing is made of high-quality metal, which gives the device a sophisticated look.

With its compact dimensions (22 x 22 x 36.2 cm) and a weight of just 3 kg, it is easily portable and fits into almost any environment – be it the bedroom, the office or the living room.

Technical details

Before we get into the practical side of things, let’s take a look at the technical highlights:

• Filter: H13 HEPA filter for 99.97 % of particles (up to 0.3 micrometers)
• CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate): 250 m³/h
• Control: Via app (Smartmi Link), voice control via Alexa and Apple HomeKit

Installation and commissioning

Setting it up is child’s play. After unpacking, connect the Smartmi P1 to the power supply and install the Smartmi Link app.

There you can connect the device to your Wi-Fi and make the initial settings. Particularly practical: the air purifier can be controlled with Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa – so you can operate it conveniently by voice command.

Cleaning performance in the test

I tested the Smartmi P1 in various rooms, including a 20 m² bedroom and a 30 m² living room.

The speed with which the air quality improved was particularly impressive. Within 15 minutes, the fine dust pollution in my bedroom was significantly reduced.

Thanks to the smart sensors, the air purifier automatically adjusts its performance – this saves energy and ensures constant air quality.

Volume and energy consumption

A decisive factor for many is the volume. In its lowest mode, the Smartmi P1 operates at just 19 dB – which is barely audible.

Even at the highest level, the appliance remains comparatively quiet at 49 dB. The air purifier also scores highly in terms of energy consumption: With a maximum output of 30 W, it is extremely efficient.

Filters and spare parts

The Smartmi is supplied with a special pollen filter that is particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. There are also other filter options such as activated charcoal filters for odors and pollutants or antibacterial filters to combat germs.

The prices for replacement filters are between 30 and 50 euros, depending on the type. It is recommended to use original filters to ensure optimum performance of the appliance.

Alternatively, there are also compatible third-party filters, which are often cheaper. Changing the filters is easy and should be done every six months or so, depending on usage. 🏵️

Smart home integration

The smart home integration is a real highlight. With the app, you can not only control the air purifier, but also create schedules or integrate it into automations.

For example, I have set it to switch on automatically when the air quality falls below a certain level.
