Smoking at Palma de Mallorca Airport: Here’s the secret area

For many vacationers, a last cigarette before the return flight is essential. This is not a problem before the security check at Mallorca Airport (PMI): there are several smoking areas at the airport.

After the security check, things become much more difficult. Officially, the airport on Mallorca has not had a smoking area for a long time. However, there is a terrace for smokers that is considered an insider tip and is not signposted. In this article, I’ll tell you how to get there.

Before the security check

Even before you enter the actual check-in and security area, there are several opportunities to smoke a cigarette at Mallorca Airport. Smoking is generally possible outside the airport building.

There is another smoking area in front of the security checkpoint: at check-in on the second floor there is a huge terrace with shaded areas and plenty of benches. Smoking is possible here without any problems.

After the security check

After passing through security, things become much more difficult: officially, there is no longer any possibility of smoking inside the airport.

But there is an insider tip that is not signposted: a small outdoor terrace with a view of the airfield, where there are even ashtrays and smoking is officially permitted.

This smoking terrace is located in the area of the C gates, more precisely between gates C38 and C48. At gate C43 you will find an automatic sliding door leading to the terrace.

There is also a small sign above this door – so it is officially a smoking terrace. This area is half open so that it complies with the current regulations.

The airport in Mallorca is currently undergoing a lot of renovation work, but the smoking terrace still exists despite the construction work. The last confirmation I received was in October 2025.
