There’s no question that the smart radiator thermostats from tado are great: you can control the temperature from anywhere using your cell phone, create schedules and automatically switch off the heating when a window is opened. But the different models can be confusing.
When upgrading our home to smart thermostats, we were faced with the question: are the inexpensive Basic thermostats enough or should we go for the more expensive V3+ version? We explain the differences in this article.
Save energy costs with tado
Especially in times of high energy prices, tado thermostats can save a lot of money. Radiators can be automatically turned down at night or even switched off completely when you are away.
Individual rooms can be set to different temperatures and you always have a good overview of heating curves and the current temperature.
tado works with Apple Homekit
The Homekit integration was a decisive argument for us in favor of tado. The Apple Home app provides an overview of all smart devices in the house and can control lights, blinds and sockets as well as the heating.
Even though there are now other radiator thermostats with Homekit, the overall package from tado convinced us the most.
Difference between tado Basic and tado V3+
But what exactly is the difference between the Basic radiator thermostat and the V3+ model? The Basic version came onto the market a little later and has a major visual difference: the digital temperature display is missing on the thermostat, the values are printed instead and the respective position is marked by LEDs.
Basic without display
In addition, only temperatures between 19° and 25° can be set directly on the Basic thermostat; all other values can only be set via the tado or Homekit app.
Another small feature is missing from the Basic model: unlike the V3+, the so-called room air comfort skill is not available. This function displays indoor air values.
Mixed operation possible
We have opted for mixed operation: In rooms where the temperature is often changed directly at the radiator, we installed the “better” V3+. In other rooms, the Basic version. Mixed operation is possible without any problems and both models can be controlled via the app.
