Review: Qingping Thermometer & Hygrometer for Apple Home

Especially in winter, it’s important to keep an eye on temperature and humidity levels. If it’s consistently too cold or too humid, mold can quickly form on indoor walls.

With a thermometer and hygrometer connected to the Apple Home app, you can conveniently read the values on your iPhone. Additionally, you can trigger automations such as smart thermostat control or set up notifications.

Some models, like the Netatmo weather station, can even measure air pressure, noise levels, and CO2 concentration.

Qingping Homekit Hygrometer Review

I took a closer look at the model from Qingping, which is also sold under other brand names. What makes it special is its easy-to-read e-ink display, which shows important values like temperature and humidity at a glance.

It comes with two CR2430 button batteries, though only one is needed for operation.

If you want to place the hygrometer on a shelf, there’s a flap on the back that acts as a stand. For wall mounting, there’s a magnetic holder in the box that attaches to smooth surfaces using double-sided tape. The device itself is also magnetic, so you can stick it to a fridge, for example.

In my test, the thermometer responded extremely quickly to changes in temperature and humidity. The values were adjusted and displayed within seconds. The update interval in Apple’s Home app is around 10 minutes.

Different Versions

Besides the version for Apple Home (the so-called H version), there is also one for Android, which requires a MI gateway, and a Lite version without smart home integration.

Review: Netatmo Weather Station for Homekit

If you prefer to buy a full weather station, take a closer look at the model from Netatmo. The base weather station consists of an indoor module and a wireless sensor for outdoor use.

In addition to indoor and outdoor temperature, the Netatmo station provides values such as air pressure, noise levels, humidity, and even CO2 levels indoors.

The latter can be very useful, as regular breathing by people can lead to poor air quality. When CO2 levels rise, it can cause headaches or fatigue.

The Netatmo weather station can, like their smoke detectors, either be operated via the dedicated Netatmo app or integrated directly into Apple’s Home app. If you prefer a proper display, you can connect the weather station to the LaMetric Time. This retro display shows various values from apps—including Netatmo. For a quick glance at air quality, you can also tap the weather station. Colored LEDs indicate the current air condition.

I have been using the Netatmo weather station for many years and am very satisfied with it. The build quality is extremely robust and reliable. You can expand the weather station with additional elements such as wind and rain gauges.
